Founded by award-winning filmmaker, writer, and podcaster, Kay Ross, Off Duty Thanks! is a brand of maximum comfort clothing that promotes mental, emotional, and physical health for all. While wearing Off Duty Thanks! apparel, Kay hopes more people can connect yet respect each others boundaries.

The Story Behind the Inspiration: After moving to Los Angeles, Kay’s partner, on a solo trip to the grocery store, saw one of Kay’s favorite actresses, Gina Torres. Her partner didn’t want to waste the opportunity, but what to do? Shake her hand? Gush over her well-earned popularity on "Suits"? Tell her Kay went to film school because of the short-lived television show "Firefly" and its subsequent feature film Serenity (2005)? Or just take a selfie and let the world know you just met a real-life goddess?!

Kay encouraged him to speak with her - at the very least let her know Kay hopes to work with her some day. You know, keep it network neutral. To his surprise, she was very kind and said thank you for the compliment. And then she said the classiest thing EVER. When asked for a picture, Gina said, “I’m sorry, I’m off duty, but thank you so much!” What a graceful way to keep the door open for future collaborations yet holding firm to one’s own boundaries. Gina Torres, you continue to astound!

The Off Duty Collection is meant to be worn when enjoying non-negotiable time off yet you’d still like a graceful way to say, “we can connect later”. The Original Collection can be worn by anyone and for any reason, but especially to give yourself a better way to say "no, thank you".

Conversely, you can also wear profession-specific collections to networking events to help start those oh-so awkward conversations about what you do. With Off Duty Thanks! apparel starting the conversation for us, we can then keep the conversation short by exchanging contact information, and then returning to your regularly scheduled "Off Duty Time".
